Jessica Jones Re-Watch: AKA 1,000 Cuts

The Netflix series The Defenders premieres August 18.  As a lead-up, I’m re-watching all the Netflix shows set in the MCU. Right now I’m on Jessica Jones. Below are 10 thoughts I had while watching episode ten, “AKA 1,000 Cuts.” Spoilers for the entire MCU, but for this episode in particular.

Will Simpson in AKA 1,000 Cuts

  1. Helping Kilgrave escape was the dumbest thing Hogarth has done so far. And that includes jury tampering.
  2. It’s so disturbing how Kilgrave thinks his relationship with Jessica is anything like Wendy’s relationship with Hogarth. Not that I think Wendy and Hogarth had a great relationship, but at least they both consented to everything that happened to them.
  3. I knew Simpson was a bad guy when he tried to blow up Kilgrave without any concern for the lives of the people working for him. Still, I wasn’t expecting Simpson to shoot Clemons in the head.
  4. I feel sorry for Pam. I know she shouldn’t have gotten involved with a married woman – especially not when that woman is her boss – but she doesn’t deserve to end up in prison.
  5. Jessica is right. If Hogarth hadn’t tampered with the wire, Kilgrave’s mother would still be alive.
  6. I can’t imagine how frustrated Malcolm feels. He knows Ruben is dead, but Robyn has him putting up missing person flyers. And of course he can’t say anything without hurting Robyn and implicating both himself and Jessica in a crime.
  7. It’s so weird seeing Jessica in a bright yellow sundress. Forcing her to wear something she’d never pick herself is just another way Kilgrave violated her.
  8. As if it wasn’t bad enough Kilgrave mind controlled all those people (expect Robyn, whose brother he made commit suicide), now he is threatening to make them hang themselves. He’s re-victimizing them, just like he’s doing with Jessica and Hope.
  9. I was so upset when Hope killed herself. Jessica fought so hard to get her out of prison, only for her to die the next day. It felt like everything Jessica had done up to that point had been futile.
  10. On the plus side, at least now there is nothing stopping Jessica from finishing off Kilgrave.
