Game of Thrones Re-Watch: Hardhome

The seventh season of Game of Thrones starts July 16. As a lead-up, I’m re-watching the first six seasons of the show. Below are 10 thoughts I had while watching the eighth episode of season five, “Hardhome.” Spoilers for the entire series, but for this episode in particular.

Jon Snow in Hardhome

  1. I’ve been looking forward to this episode. Its violent and gory, which are two things I don’t particularly enjoy about this show, but it’s also incredibly well-written, well-acted, and exciting.
  2. Arya’s hair looks so good during the scene where she’s selling clams. It’s always a nice treat when they let her look a little girly.
  3. Sansa may still be in Ramsay’s clutches, but at least now she’s knows she’s not the last living Stark.
  4. Good luck breaking that wheel, Daenerys.
  5. “He always comes back.” –  Looking back, this is probably a clue pointing to Jon’s resurrection.
  6. The wildlings certainly have a nasty way of asserting who the alpha male is, if the bit between Tormund and the Lord of Bones is anything to go by.
  7. I’m glad Karsi’s daughters managed to make it to safety. I just wish she had gone with them.
  8. Shutting the gates and leaving your own people to die is cold. I know it’s a matter of survival, but it’s still really hard for me to watch.
  9. So Valyrian steel works on White Walkers, too. It’s a good thing Jeor Mormont gave Jon that sword.
  10. It’s a pity they killed off Karsi so quickly. She could have been an interesting character.
