Daredevil Re-Watch: Daredevil

The Netflix series The Defenders premieres August 18.  As a lead-up, I’m re-watching all the Netflix shows set in the MCU. First up is season one of Daredevil. Below are 10 thoughts I had while watching episode thirteen, “Daredevil.” Spoilers for the entire MCU, but for this episode in particular.

Matt Murdock in Daredevil

  1. It’s bad enough Karen is dealing with the trauma of killing Wesley. Now she feels responsible for Ben’s death too. Poor woman cannot catch a break.
  2. Owlsley was an idiot for admitting to poisoning Vanessa. He should have known Fisk would snap, considering how much Fisk cares for Vanessa.
  3. I’m glad Foggy finally forgave Matt. I wouldn’t have been able to handle it if their fight had lasted through the hiatus.
  4. It’s a good thing for Hell’s Kitchen that Karen went to work for Nelson and Murdock. Otherwise Matt wouldn’t have found Hoffman in time and Fisk might still be free.
  5. I love how Nessun dorma plays as we see the various people on Fisk’s payroll getting arrested. I find it quite moving.
  6. Part of the tragedy of Ben’s death is that he died thinking Ellison was working for Fisk, when it was really Ellison’s secretary.
  7. The first time I watched this, I was disappointed when Fisk was arrested because I’d been expecting a showdown between him and Matt. I should have known Fisk wouldn’t go quietly.
  8. Matt’s suit is nothing short of effing amazing. Melvin Potter is brilliant at what he does.
  9. I’m glad we get a final scene between Matt, Foggy, and Karen. Its nice to see them moving forward with their lives as best as they can.
  10. Its perfect that the blank wall in Fisk’s cell resembles the painting Vanessa sold him. I hope that every time he looks at it he’s reminded of the fact that he’ll never get to be with her again.
