The Netflix series The Defenders premieres August 18.  As a lead-up, I’m re-watching all the Netflix shows set in the MCU. First up is season one of Daredevil. Below are 10 thoughts I had while watching episode nine, “Speak of the Devil.” Spoilers for the entire MCU, but for this episode in particular.

1. Father Lantom seems like a smart and good-hearted man. I’m glad he’s going to appear in The Defenders. I can only imagine what Jessica would make of Matt consulting a priest.
2. I like the Captain America reference from Foggy. The MCU is so big, sometimes it’s easy to forget that these characters all co-exist together.
3. Not keeping closer tabs on Hoffman was one of the few mistakes Fisk ever made.
4. I love how they use the word organization whenever discussing Nobu’s criminal ties. It gives the impression he works for the yakuza. Of course, anyone who has seen Iron Fist by now knows who he really works for.
5. It always bothers me that Vanessa describes the painting in her gallery as red. Its clearly orange.
6. Poor Mrs. Cardenas. She just wanted to stay in her home.
7. Fisk is such a monster. It’s bad enough he had Mrs. Cardenas killed. Now he’s exploiting it for his own gain.
8. It’s bad enough that Junkie Jake killed Mrs. Cardenas, but then he stole her purse too. There’s something especially vile about stealing from the dead.
9. I’m embarrassed to admit that I watched all of Iron Fist without remembering that Matt had killed Nobu in this episode.
10. I wish Matt had told Foggy about his secret identity, instead of Foggy finding out the way he did.
