Game of Thrones Re-Watch: Oathkeeper

The new season of Game of Thrones starts July 16. As preparation, I’m re-watching the first six seasons of the show. Below are 10 thoughts I had while watching the fourth episode of season four, “Oathkeeper.” Spoilers for the entire series, but for this episode in particular.

Brienne of Tarth in Oathkeeper

  1. I love the scene with Missandei teaching Grey Worm the Common Tongue. Both because it gives us background on them and because it’s a nice break from all the fighting and backstabbing.
  2. I’m with Ser Barristan. What the Great Masters did was awful, but Daenerys should not have  crucified 163 of them.
  3. Littlefinger really is full of himself. What kind of person, having gotten away with committing murder and treason, goes around telling people exactly how he did it?
  4. Clearly Margaery got her cleverness and ambition from Olenna. This just makes me want an Olenna prequel even more.
  5. I’ll be honest, the first time I saw this I didn’t recognize Locke as the guy who had cut off Jaime’s hand. Sometimes I wonder if there aren’t too many characters and plotlines on this show.
  6. Tommen really was such a sweet young thing.
  7. I was so upset when Tywin melted down Ned’s sword, because it was symbolic of the destruction of the Starks. But it does seems appropriate that Brienne is using the reforged sword to fulfill her promise to Cat that she’ll find and rescue Sansa.
  8. Karl, drinking out of an actual skull is just gross. Not to mention disrespectful to the dead.
  9. Poor Ghost! No animal should be caged and starved.
  10. So now we know the babies Craster was sacrificing were being turned into White Walkers. What a comforting thought.
