The next season of Game of Thrones starts July 16. As preparation, I’m re-watching the first six seasons of the show. Below are 10 thoughts I had while watching the third episode of season four, “Breaker of Chains.” Spoilers for the entire series, but for this episode in particular.
- The first time I watched this I was so worried that Sansa wouldn’t get away from King’s Landing and would be taken prisoner by Tywin and Cersei.
- And just when it looks like Sansa is finally safe, she ends up in Littlefinger’s clutches. Man, I really hope he dies before the show ends.
- Tywin really is a peach, insulting his dead grandson in front of the boy’s mother.
- Just when I think that Jaime is actually becoming a decent guy, he goes and rapes Cersei. And yes, it was rape. I don’t care if it was consensual in the books, what they showed on screen was definitely assault.
- I’m glad we get a cute scene with Sam and Gilly in this episode. There haven’t been a lot of pleasant moments on this show lately.
- The Dornish do have rather healthy sex drives, don’t they? Not that I’m complaining; Pedro Pascal and Indira Varma are rather pleasant to look at.
- Pod really is the most loyal squire that ever lived.
- I guess Olly was too skinny for the Thenns’ taste.
- Meereen has some beautiful architecture. Too bad it was built on the backs of slaves.
- I love Daenerys having the broken chains catapulted over the walls of Meereen. It shows the masters who is in charge and inspires the slaves to rebel.
