Daredevil Re-Watch: Stick

The Netflix series The Defenders premieres August 18.  As a lead-up, I’m re-watching all the Netflix shows set in the MCU. First up is season one of Daredevil. Below are 10 thoughts I had while watching episode seven, “Stick.” Spoilers for the entire MCU, but for this episode in particular.

Matt Murdock in Stick

  1. I wish the show would tell us more about Matt’s mom. I think this episode is the only time she’s mentioned, and we’re told she’s not dead, but nothing else.
  2. Stick is such an interesting character. I’m glad he’s going to appear in The Defenders.
  3. “An expensive shithole.” – Welcome to living in modern New York City, Stick.
  4. “They call it Black Sky. The Bringer of Shadows.” – I’ll be glad when The Defenders comes out and all the buildup about Black Sky and the Hand we’ve gotten over two seasons of Daredevil and a season of Iron Fist hopefully comes to a boil.
  5. Mrs. Cardenas’s apartment looks much better in this episode.
  6. Also, I love her looking at her picture of Jesus and making the sign of the cross every time either she or Karen curses. It really adds personality to her character.
  7. Foggy showing up and saving Karen with a baseball bat shows how much he cares for her. Although I don’t blame her for being pissed. I’d be pissed if I found out my boss was following me around the city too.
  8. The first time I saw that Black Sky was a child, my heart dropped. Children should not be involved in war.
  9. Matt’s anger at Stick shows the differences between them. Stick saw a weapon that needed to be stopped, while Matt saw a child that needed to be saved.
  10. Its sad that Stick kept the bracelet all these years and then threw it away. It shows he’s finally given up on Matt.
