The Netflix series The Defenders premieres August 18. In preparation, I’m re-watching all the Netflix shows set in the MCU. First up is season one of Daredevil. Below are 15 thoughts I had while watching episode five, “World on Fire.” Spoilers for the entire MCU, but for this episode in particular.
- I like that we get to see how Matt sees. I think it’s an important part of understanding his character.
- Vladimir, can’t you see that Wesley and Fisk are playing you like a violin?
- It must stink to be the guy who has to clean the blood and gore from the vehicle that Fisk used to kill Anatoly.
- I wonder how many languages Wesley can speak. He probably thought he was so smart. Too bad he underestimated Karen.
- It would really suck to be so poor that you’d give up your eyesight to go to work for the head of drug empire, only to end up being killed because you’re in the wrong place at the wrong time.
- Elena Cardenas was such a nice woman. She did not deserve what happened to her.
- If you decide to go to work for a crime lord, never try to roll over on him. A mobster like Piotr should have known that.
- I was so relieved when Marci turned out to not be as awful as she seemed at first glance. Otherwise I might have lost some of my respect for Foggy, considering he used to date her.
- No one should have to live the way Mrs. Cardenas was living. Slumlords should have to live the way they force their tenants to.
- Vanessa’s dress looks like a candy wrapper. A pretty candy wrapper, but a candy wrapper.
- Mrs. Cardenas is a sly one, setting up Foggy and Karen on a date.
- I feel sorry for Claire. She wants Matt but thinks she can’t get involved with him because it would be bad for her.
- “They were my father’s. I wear them every day, to remember him.” – This line is so chilling now that I know what happened to Fisk’s father.
- “Matt’s always getting involved with the wrong girls.” – You just know Foggy was thinking of Elektra when he said this.
- Seriously Vanessa? Fisk just admitted to bombing your neighborhood and you continue to date the man?
