The Netflix series The Defenders premieres August 18. As preparation, I’m re-watching all the Netflix shows set in the MCU. First up is season one of Daredevil. Below are 10 thoughts I had while watching episode four, “In the Blood.” Spoilers for the entire MCU, but for this episode in particular.
- The beginning of this episode is so disturbing. Makes me never want to get arrested in Russia.
- Fisk is like the Lord Voldemort of Hell’s Kitchen, he’s got people so afraid of saying his name.
- Sometimes I just have to roll my eyes at what passes for medicine on TV. If epinephrine was all it took to wake Semyon up from his coma, wouldn’t doctors have done that already?
- Maybe it’s because I’m not well versed in what passes for modern art, but all the paintings in Vanessa’s gallery look exactly the same. The only difference is the color.
- If it wasn’t for Ben, Karen would probably be dead by now.
- Anatoly was so stupid for interrupting Fisk’s date. He should have known Fisk would have taken such an intrusion poorly, considering how hard he works to hide his involvement in the criminal underworld.
- I forgot that Fisk wore armor in his suit until I saw Anatoly slice it open. Which was stupid, considering that’s how Matt got his suit.
- Anatoly’s death is so hard to watch. I think it’s probably the most violent I’ve ever seen in the MCU.
- Fisk always struck me as slightly insane. Only a crazy person would want to start a war in Hell’s Kitchen when they’re trying to save Hell’s Kitchen.
- Also, watching Fisk decapitate Anatoly probably ensured Wesley would never betray him. Fear can inspire loyalty.
