The seventh season of Game of Thrones starts July 16. As a lead-up, I’m re-watching the first six seasons of the show. Below are 10 thoughts I had while watching the eighth episode of season three, “Second Sons.” Spoilers for the entire series, but for this episode in particular.
- Once again the show gets us all excited, thinking there’s going to be a Stark family reunion. And of course they’ll crush those hopes.
- I much prefer Michiel Huisman as Daario Naharis.
- Cersei gives us the origins of the song The Rains of Castamere, right before the episode of the same title. I think the writers actually did a good job of working that in.
- It’s creepy how Cersei will be both Margaery’s sister-in-law and mother-in-law.
- It’s interesting that everyone who Stannis names (Robb, Balon, and Joffrey) is now dead. Then again, so is Stannis.
- Even Olenna (one of the smartest people on the show) can’t get her head around the family tree that will result if her grandchildren end up marrying Joffrey and Cersei.
- I didn’t think Joffrey could get any worse than after beheading Ned, but here he is threatening to rape Sansa. He really is a monster.
- Tyrion may be a Lannister, but he is far and away the best Lannister.
- I love the bit with Missandei correcting Daenerys’s Dothraki. She really is a great addition to the show.
- Now we know that dragonglass can kill White Walkers.
