Daredevil Re-Watch: Cut Man

The Netflix series The Defenders premieres August 18.  As preparation, I’m re-watching all the Netflix shows set in the MCU. First up is season one of Daredevil. Below are 10 thoughts I had while watching episode two, “Cut Man.” Spoilers for the entire MCU, but for this episode in particular.

Claire Temple in Cut Man

  1. This is the second time I’ve watched this episode and it’s the second time I’ve stared at the screen wondering if I missed something. I forgot that they don’t tell you how Matt ended up in the dumpster.
  2. I like on this, but it was on Luke Cage that I came to love her. Rosario Dawson for president in 2020!
  3. It’s a good thing Claire knows her medical shit. Otherwise Matt would be so dead by now.
  4. I like the scene where Matt is learning to read braille. I used to wonder why they didn’t just use the standard alphabet, because it would be easier for people who used to be able to see to learn. But now I know that the reason is because it isn’t as fast.
  5. Bribing someone to lose on purpose in wrong, but forcing them to do under threat of violence is so much worse.
  6. Matt has incredibly good aim. There’s no way I could drop a fire extinguisher on a guy’s head from several flights up.
  7. Claire has come such a long way. She is so afraid of getting on the wrong side of the law in her first episode. Now she’s almost as cool as Jessica.
  8. Foggy and Karen are quite entertaining when they’re drunk. Of course, Foggy is almost always entertaining.
  9. I always tear up a little when Matt finds his father’s body. It’s sad that Jack died for doing the right thing, but it’s especially sad that Matt is left without his dad.
  10. I’m so glad Matt saved that little boy. After Jack’s death, I wouldn’t have been able to handle any more sadness this episode.
