The next season of Game of Thrones starts July 16. As preparation, I’m re-watching the first six seasons of the show. Below are 10 thoughts I had while watching the sixth episode of season three, “The Climb.” Spoilers for the entire series, but for this episode in particular.
- It’s a wonder Meera and Osha didn’t kill each other within ten minutes of meeting.
- We get more foreshadowing that Melisandre will bring Jon back from the dead in season six when she visits Thoros in this episode.
- The scenes with Jon and the wildings climbing the Wall are shot so beautifully. I can’t imagine the work that went into them.
- God, every scene with Ramsay makes me long for the Battle of the Bastards to come.
- Looking back, the scene where Ramsay flays Theon’s finger is a hint as to his real identity.
- Edmure may be screwup, but it sucks that he’s forced into an arranged marriage because Robb weaseled out on his end of the deal. Still, I suppose it’s only fair considering how often women are forced into arranged marriages on this show.
- Olenna’s acceptance of Loras’s homosexuality is just another reason why I love her.
- Loras is so awkward around Sansa. I feel especially bad for him now that I know what misery is in store for him.
- Tywin really is a particular type breed of monster, managing to find a way to make the lives of four people Hell all at once simply for his own gain.
- Poor Ros! She didn’t deserve to go out like that.
