The seventh season of Game of Thrones starts July 16. As preparation, I’m re-watching the first six seasons of the show. Below are 10 thoughts I had while watching the first episode of season three, “Valar Dohaeris.” Spoilers for the entire series, but for this episode in particular.
- Seeing Winterfell burning in the opening credits makes me sad. I’ll be glad when season six gets here and the Stark banner is back over it.
- And of course Old Nan was right about giants (just like she was about dragons).
- I’d watch an entire episode of Tyrion and Cersei exchanging jabs at each other. Just that for 55 minutes. It would be wildly entertaining.
- I really feel for Ser Davos. Yet another parent who outlives their child because of war.
- Tywin is such a wonderful father. He’s right up there with Robert for parent of the year.
- Littlefinger’s obsession with Sansa is so creepy. Hard to say which is worse: him preying on her or Joffrey having her abused.
- Apparently Daenerys’s dragons are the new direwolves and we’re using them to show the passage of time.
- Margaery is as lovely as Joffrey is cruel. She’s the queen King’s Landing needs.
- Missandei! I was pretty upset when all of Daenerys’s handmaidens were killed off, but Missandei more than makes up for their loss.
- Ser Barristan arrives and saves Daenerys. I’m so happy to see him again, and he couldn’t have chosen a better time to reveal himself.
